iOS game Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North review

Facebook gamers will be familiar with the game Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North. It is a hardcore action game with slow paced strategy and that's enough to say that it has succeeded in attracting a good following over a number of years. The game is quite similar to Evony and is now available as an upgrade on the iOS with the title Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North. There is no change in the game play and most of the story remains the same except for the fact that it is now available on mobile devices. That said, Kingdoms of Camelot is not a easy game even for new players.

For those unfamiliar with this came let's delve into the details of this game. This is a big multiplayer game where players have to together build up a kingdom from the ground. You are required to build your kingdom by constructing on plots of land and forcing your way through anything that comes in your path, including other players, by the army of thousands you will gather by expanding your kingdom. Till this end of theme there is nothing different in the iOS version except of course the clicks being replaced with taps.

As a new player you start off with building structures and managing resources. The resources include lumber, food, stone, and population and so on. All of these resources are connected and used somewhere. You are given a small piece of land where you use these resources to build structures, increase population to be used in army and in farms, food to feed the population and gold to make purchases. Gold is collected as taxes from the population which makes them unhappy and you are then forced to make structures or purchase buyable items for them to keep their anger in check.

This all might sound a bit confusing, but there is a guide system in place to help you through the new tasks step by step and a quest system which will guide you in the whole game on what should be done next. In fact, new players are given ample resources and monetary benefits in the start.

The best thing about this is that you need not go on managing the resources throughout the game, once you have made the required structures the resources are produced passively. Also, once you have done the basics required for buildings and any associated units that are produced, you get several minutes to hours to do some research roaming in the kingdom because the production takes so much of time. You can use this time constructively by familiarizing yourself with the game, researching new technology which will help you in increasing the effectiveness of your production units and also in upgrading your structures to newer levels on efficiency. This will decrease you time play as the production tasks will start to take less and less time. This might not be to the liking for some of the players but for playing this game on iOS mobile device the shortening in time doesn't sound too bad.

For accelerating the game further you can also opt for the virtual currency which can be bought by using real money. This currency is called "Gems" and can be used for a variety of purposes like accelerating construction speed or buying defense or offence for your army. This is a nice feature in the game as you cannot go too competitive on a mobile device.

As mentioned earlier, this game is massively multiplayer where players can attack any other player. Though the new players are granted a secure time of 7 days but they prove too less when a veteran player bulldozes through your defenses, takes away your earnings and flattens your army. There is no level playing field here and if you want to keep going alone then you will be thrown out soon; the only way to keep up in the game is to form alliances. Aside from this complain the only other con of Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North is that it is not much different its genre predecessor Evony.

At conclusion I will say that if are ready to face the constant attacks in your kingdom then there is nothing bad in this game. The game proceeds slowly due to delay by the production units but as now it is on a mobile device you can always take off a few minutes to manage your kingdom with the aid of the push notifications which will keep you updated on the proceedings. If you were a fan of the Facebook version of Kingdoms of Camelot then you will like to play the game on your Apple device too. It is sad however that you cannot connect the iOS rendition to the Facebook one. For the new players only one suggestion- do not get disappointed by a lot of loses in the start.
